No 6 Good Intentions

It's now three days after Christmas and thankfully the left over turkey, Christmas pudding, trifle and the like is finished. I consumed more food than usual but I do intend to get myself back on to my moderate eating habits. It would seem that at the end of each year we use the word 'intend or intention' more than usual.
The dictionary definition of intend is to have a course of action as one's purpose or objective.
The problem with intentions are that you can die being full of them and never actually do anything about them.
It's the same thing with resolutions. Especially New Year resolutions.
A resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something.
Now to me 'a firm decision' carries more weight than simply having a course of action. You would think that having made a firm decision it would be a done deed. Sadly, this is not the case. Resolutions just like intentions, are not always carried out and brought to a conclusion.
I could give you a run down of all my failed attempts at keeping resolutions but this is blog not a novel!
Actually if I started I could probably get at least a trilogy out of it and a workbook and study guide complete with six part DVD set.
When I look back over old journals and notebooks and read the list if things I'm going to change and have not, it pains me. Some of the 'firm decisions' have been carried forward for years.
My, my, my!!
Well, a new year dawns in four days and it's carry forward time. But, it's also carry out time and I'm not talking about a Chinese meal! I'm talking 'bite the bullet and get on with it'.
See it through, be a completer, finish what you start, don't wimp out and the like.
Let me encourage you not to give up on your good intentions or resolutions but rather stay full of them. The world would be in a sad state if people did not have good in their hearts and the desire to be better, do better and make a difference.
Yes, it will take effort but it's worth it and I have learned some things that helped me keep my resolutions.

1) Write them down
2) Be accountable for them
3) Set a completion time
4) Get help if you need it. (You don't have to do it by yourself)
5) Enjoy the experience
6) Remember that all change is a process.

You may have something you would like to share so please get back to me.

As a wee addendum!!
Re the Nativity. The donkey did great and didn't drop anything it shouldn't have!
There was a moment when it looked like it wasn't going to leave but a pull on it's tail got it going.
Mary and Joseph looked like they liked each other. The angels sang like angels.
The children were wonderful and we were totally blessed and left thankful for the greatest gift of all. A Saviour who loves us and came down to earth for us.

May 2010 be the best year yet for you and may all your dreams and desires be fulfilled.

Nan
