Angels
I believe in angels. I believe that every man and woman born in to this earth has an angel that watches over them. Now when you saw the word angel, you may have formed a picture in your mind of what you think an angel looks like.
You may have pictured a female in a long dress with white angel wings, kind of like the old fashioned scraps we used to swap when we were little. Or you may have pictured a small cherub floating on a cloud playing a harp. Our perception of angels differs according to what we have heard and seen about them. There are many movies that portray angels in human form who come down from heaven to help people who are in difficulties. One of my favourite movies is ‘It’s A Wonderful life’ starring James Stewart. Who can forget Clarence the angel sent to help? He wanted to do his good deed so he could get his ‘wings’.
But, do angels have wings? I don’t believe they do!
When I think of angels, I see tall, manly angelic beings, minus the wings. The best place to research angels is the Bible. Whenever there was an angelic manifestation, people would fall down in fear and the first thing the angel would say is ‘Fear Not’ !
There are messenger angels and warrior angels and if we could see into the spirit realm, we would see that they are all around us.
In the book of Hebrews we are told that they are ministering spirits sent to help God’s children. We are even instructed to be hospitable as we could be opening our homes to angels while being unaware of who they are. Now there’s a thought!
During the war in the former nation of Rhodesia, there are many testimonies of how people escaped death by the help of angels. My husband was saved from a car wreck while driving in South Africa and he is convinced that it was by the help of angels.
Now let me share my car story. I was low in petrol and stopped by the garage to fill up. When I got to the pump there was a sign letting me know that it was out of order. I got back in the car but couldn’t get it to start. Oh no, had I ran out of petrol? So near and yet so far! Parked in front of me was an RAC van. I walked into the kiosk and asked the RAC driver if he could help me. He came out, pushed my car into an open space, backed his van near my car and charged my dead batteries. The car started first time.
Now my question to you is, was he an angel? Well, to me he was. Just because he had RAC on the back of his jacket doesn’t mean he wasn’t!
Psalm 91 is a powerful promise that we have angels looking out for us. They come and go and we are not even aware of their influence and assistance in our lives, but whether we believe in them or not, they are always there. Isn’t that reassuring?
Life is so daily and there are times we get ourselves into some difficult and dangerous situations, but thank God for His angels.
