8th December Winter Wonderland
Winter came early this year and with it challenges which many were not prepared for! One of the biggest was transport. Main arterial roads were closed and many have been stranded in their vehicles for hours because they were gridlocked with nowhere to go!
Our son, who was in his vehicle from 6am till 9pm, communicated with us more in that one day than any other time. What do you do when you have nowhere to go, nothing to do and no one with you? We had great conversations and kept up to date with the weather conditions via radio, web and TV! Our wee granddaughter called him and gave him her rendition of the song from Madagascar ‘You gotta move it, move it!!!!!
Schools were closed, much to the children’s delight, and people couldn’t get to work. Shops sold out of bread because of panic buying. Fuel ran out because the fuel tankards couldn’t get to the garages and on it goes! Living in the Northern hemisphere, you would think we were prepared for winter, but I will say no more on that one! I still prefer the cold and frosty to the wet and windy, so I am not complaining, and the beauty of the snowcapped mountains, fields and lochs in incomparable. We are blessed with our birthright and I am thankful that even through the challenges, people went out of their way to be helpful. The spirit of community came to the fore and that always brings out the best in us, especially in the Christmas season.
We all have the opportunity to give what we can and to take the time to catch up with family and friends. This year our church in putting on a Christmas pantomime, The Best Gift. After last years success with the Nativity (featuring a real donkey) everyone’s expectation is up there for bigger and better. So be it!! I always look forward to the children’s input and they emanate true joy, which is infectious. We all need a good dose of joy, so if you want to catch some you know where to come, Christmas Eve, 7pm, at The Bridge Church in Irvine.
My expectation is that we will have a white Christmas full of the peace and joy that comes with the celebration of the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. May your cup be full and running over and remember, we have the best gift in our Saviour. Let your gift to others this year be to spread some goodwill, comfort and joy.
